A room never seen, one configuration at a time

Met (20 of 20)2,100 measurements, 10 configurations

The test at a glance

What it tests
Accuracy against reality: each new room arrangement, predicted before it was measured.
Data
dEchorate (Zenodo 5562386): one room, 10 surface configurations, 30 microphones, 7 loudspeakers.
Held out
Each configuration until its turn, in 20 seeded orders.
Compared against
Memory of the 5 nearest measurements.
Bar
Physics plus memory ahead in at least 18 of the 20 orders.
Result
20 of 20; ahead on 133 of 160 predicted configurations.

Living Worlds predicted each new arrangement of a room before it was measured, from those measured so far, and beat memory of the nearest measurements in all 20 seeded orders, where 18 were needed, and in 133 of the 160 configurations it predicted. The room is public (dEchorate): walls, ceiling and floor each bare or covered in absorbing panels, measured with 30 microphones and 7 loudspeakers. Registered before any decay in this room was computed. Errors sit near 10% of the decay time.
