Crowds against real pedestrians, six recorded scenes

Not met (3 of 6)six recorded scenes never run

Improved A later registered study met the bar: Crowds among shoppers, a day nobody had opened.

The test at a glance

What it tests
Accuracy against reality on four crowd measures: walking speed, distance to the nearest person, path straightness and contacts under 0.3 m.
Data
ETH and UCY pedestrian tracks; six scenes scored.
Held out
Six scenes never simulated or scored before.
Compared against
Social force, and straight walkers who ignore each other (ORCA reported).
Bar
Lower rank sum than both in at least 5 of 6 scenes.
Result
3 of 6: not met.

Living Worlds' crowd moved more like real pedestrians than both the social-force crowd common in robot training and people who ignore each other in 3 of 6 public ETH and UCY scenes, where 5 were needed. It won the three quieter scenes; in the dense ones, two at a university and one outside a shop, real people walk in groups and the crowd kept everyone apart. Registered before any scene was simulated; scored on walking speeds, distance to the nearest person, straightness of paths and how often people came within 0.3 metres.
